XMAS DAY IN THE NEW FOREST

Xmas lunch was at the "Sir Walter Tyrrell" pub, which we had found ona day trip. No one knew each other, so we had a grand time.

ZOI'S WEDDING

Ken's elder niece Zoi married her long-time boyfriend Milton Economu in the posh Athens suburb of Vouliagmeni on January 10th, which meant we had to blow our annual flight Carbon ration on this trip, staying in the acceptable & reasonably priced (for Vougliameni)Plaza Hotel. Try this link for photos of the parties, wedding (including Greek Orthodox chanting movie) & feast.

VISITING AVIS' SISTER ALYSON

Alyson in April

Howtown Hotel

In April, we 'dropped in' on Avis' sisiter Alyson, whom we do not see often as she lives in Glossop. Then, a night with the Baldrys at Howtown Hotel in the Lake District & at Matlock Bath on the way back. April trips are not a good idea, weather-wise!

VISITING ALYSON AGAIN

Calke Abbey

Southwell Workhouse

...in October but first, we stayed in Matlock Bath at the Ashdale Guest House again in order to do some National Trust visiting, starting with Calke Abbey, which is a carefully preserved heap of junk, as left by the last occupants.

Matlock Bath

This included 1000s of stuffed birds. Then to Southwell Workhouse, an early exemplar of these monuments to human cruelty & Hardwick Hall, with its magnificent wall tapestries & also relatively untouched since Bess built it. This was a really cloudy day. Moving base to the Birds Nest Cottage at Glossop, a few doors from Alyson's little house, overlooking a deep cut stream, we went to Little Morton Hall & Lyme Hall. Then, Alyson & Marcus, her bloke, took us to Buxton for the Craft Fair. We also visited Alyson's school, where she oversees a unit for pupils with learning difficulties.
