Freudenstadt

From there, we carried on South through more pretty forest to Freudenstadt, with its huge Market Square with fountains & sculpture & again, very pretty.
The Protestant Church is very unusual, being L-shaped with the altar in the corner.

Looks ordinary at first...

Just outside the town is a green road which runs down rather mountainously, to Wolfach, past the monastery village of Bad Rippoldsau (right). We stopped in OberWolfach at the Hotel 3 Könige for a splendid lunch with big, fat asparagus, E37.30 with tip.

Triberg

From Wolfach, we went South to Triberg, which has the highest waterfall in Germany, more a series of waterfalls, E1.50 each. Avis went some way up, despite her foot still being bandaged up
& I went up to the second bridge.

Triberg

The road is a sharp pull up from there & we turned off towards Weissenbach on a white road.

Near Weissenbach

We got rather tangled up at Farnberg but eventually found the muddy field, which is the source of the Danube, called the Breg here.

Continuing South, we went through Furtwangen & down to the Gasthaus Kalte Herberge for Kaffe Kannchen & Apfelstrudel (E13.60). The weather turned dull here. This was where one turns off East towards Donaueschingen on a very attractive green road, which joins the Breg again.

Donaueschingen did not ring any chimes, although we got a glimpse of their phony Donauquelle. We carried on South to Blumberg, then West to Bonndorf, where we found the Hotel Germania, who gave us a room for E60 & beers at E4.40 for two half-litres. A splendid day of sunny weather except for the short while after the Kalte Herberge.
