Ray's notes:-
This looks very much like it could be my G5-grandfather, Andrew Baldrey, who was buried at Ipswich St Margaret on May 19, 1802. Andrew married Mary (name and date not yet known) and their daughter Susannah (1760-1839) married my G4-gf John Acfield (1753-1802) in 1781 at Ipswich St Margaret. I see that Susannah is a common Baldry female name. John & Susannah went on to have a large family in Coddenham where they ran the Crown Inn carriage house. I am descended from John & Susannah's eldest son John (1784-1878). As a sign of close family ties, the "Andrew" and even the "Baldry" names were given to several of John & Susannah Acfield's descendants.
From what I have gathered in my research so far, Andrew did fairly well for himself given his start in life. He apprenticed as a painter with Joshua Kirby in Ipswich, rising to partner and then manager of the company in the late 1750s. This is the same Joshua Kirby who was close friends with none other than the famous artist Thomas Gainsborough who, according to published sources, also knew Andrew Baldrey. The "Joshua" name also found its way into John & Susannah's Acfield family line at this time, where it continues to this day.
