Plymouth

Saturday 24th December

Plymouth Hoe & Smeaton's 3rd Eddystone Lighthouse

Ken took the shuttle alone, as Avis not feeling well. This went into Plymouth City Centre, as we were round by the MXXXX harbour to the West of the city. I travelled with tiny Rose but at 80, she moved up the Hoe faster than I would have walked alone.

Sir Francis Drake

Memorials on Plymouth Hoe

Marine Barracks Gate of 1670

I took photos & walked off round by the Marine Barracks & down to the Barbican Old Harbour area.

“The Three Crowns”

Then, I went into the centre for stuff Avis wanted & walked up the Hoe again.

Sally Ann on Xmas Eve

Guildhall

County Court screen over thedoor

This time, I walked back to the ship round the other point, which is all very attractive until one gets near more modern developments. Security at the port was airport thorough & I had to take my belt off. I was back at 12 & started work on photos, as one does.

Sunday 25th Decmber - Xmas Day at Sea

I pounded the deck, latterly with an ex-HMRC man. Then, festivities started. We were force-fed mince pies & egg nog & chatted to two families of parents with 13 year olds. I did some web & diary editing both sides of lunch & after the so-called classical concert, a Taiwanese pianist called Yo with a sense of humour but played stuff used in films & some mucking about, making miscellenies from Rachmaninov & Gershwin. I had a chat to her at tea time. Another formal evening & Captain’s party. When he said where we were going, I heckled, “Are your sure?”, to general mirth. A traditional Christmas dinner & the same Xmas show team show as on the previous cruise.
