Kiel Canal

Sunday 29th December 2013

Sbb. We were in the Kiel Canal on a misty day and, despite what Elliott had said about the lovely scenery, the canal is what it says on its tin. The morning was filled by Janice’s port talk and the Oceans Club members party, in which we got plenty of booze but no fried seafood. (The Oceans Club is Fred's loyalty club, with 50 nights getting you silver membership & 101 nights, gold, which has useful privileges, such as free shuttle tickets & getting on the ship first). We went to lunch, as it seemed to take a long time to get the Brunsbuttel locks but were there after.

Tony Cooke gave a good talk on three ocean liners, followed by Ben Kearsley on the guitar. This was, effectively, a sea day with no sea, to speak of.
