Liverpool Road - two Designated Killing Zones |

Liverpool Road should have been closed to shut down two Designated (by the Council?) Killing Zones: one at the Angel Station Crossing & one in the middle of the N1 Shopping Centre. The Greater London Authority commissioned an independent survey of this disaster area but the Council rejects their findings. See this link for the exchange in the GLA. |
Kill Zone One - The lethal junction of Liverpool Road & Upper Street. |
Kill Zone Two - where else would traffic be allowed through the very middle of a 'pedestrianised shopping area'. |
Kill Zone Two -the view from road (pedstrian) level. |
The N1 Shopping Centre - this bit is pedestrianised correctly |
Who wants a zebra crossing here? This is where Liverpool Road should be blocked - at the entrance to Chapel Market |
The traffic coming down Liverpool Road should be sent right into Tolpuddle Street, where nobody lives, & down to Barnsbury Road. |
|
In order to make Liverpool Road safe, it should be closed off outside the 'Agricultural' pub. This would allow the Chapel Market traders to enter it from Upper Street South (actually Islington High Street) & exit to the North along Upper Street, obviating the need for traffic lights for traffic outside Angel Tube Station. The pedestrian lights could then be set properly, so that pedestrians could cross all the way in one move, instead of being trapped in the 'sheep pen' as now. End of Killing Zone One. One really stupid suggestion by Councillor BF (below) is for a bridge or tunnel from Angel Station. Memo to BF (who is a woman, after all) Women Don't Like tunnels & Don't Like Pushing Prams up bridges. Pedestrians are entitled to ground level safety. The block on Liverpool Road would pedestrianise the section between there & Tolpuddle Street. Taxis could be allowed into this section to pick up shoppers, as they do now. But they should be subject to a 4 m.p.h. speed limit, as happens in Germany in these circumstances. End of Killing Zone Two. But what about the local residents? See the next page. |
