Proposed destruction of New River Gardens trees

Last updated 3/5/2008

Local campaigners have forced Islington Council to stop the felling of some of the trees in the New River Gardens & publish for the first time, proper legible plans for re-planting. As we don't trust these blighters an inch, we will be closely monitoring what they do over the next year. One cause for hope that the plans are not just paper, is that it is not their (=our) money that is paying for the re-planting but Government Grant money. However, the fascists currently in control of the council will divert that money, given half a chance.

When they have done the scheduled felling, I will publish photographs of the gardens (which will be pretty bleak) on the next web page, so we can check at the end of the year if there is any difference.

Many thanks to our Councillor Martin Klute, who pursued the officers to produce proper plans.
