From: Stephen Altoft, e-mail him This looks like an interesting project.

I am writing to ask for advice. I am applying for financial assistance for a collaborative concert project between British and German based musicians. This will be presented by the British Music Information Centre in its Cutting Edge series of concerts held at The Warehouse, in London in December. This two concert project will focus very much on British composers who live in England and also abroad.

The project is a collaboration between Darragh Morgan's violin and piano duo, myself (trumpet) and the German group, Suono Mobile. This would take the form of an early evening performance of the Listenings cycle by Bryn Harrison (a composer on the BMIC's New Voices scheme), and then a later concert by the Freiburg group, Suono Mobile. Apart from a unique concert experience, this piece will bring together musicians from Germany and England, and allow an exchange on both the musical and cultural levels in which the composers will also be present.

The complete ensemble for the Listenings concert will consist of: Violin, Piano, Percussion, Flute and Trumpet. These pieces have not yet been performed as a complete work, and a performance during the Cutting Edge series could be the world premiere of the Listenings Cycle. It is envisaged that there will also be performances in the Baden-Württemburg area of Germany, during 2003.

The second concert will be by Suono Mobile (flute, piano and percussion) and myself (trumpet), and would feature the UK premiere of a piece by young German Composer, Michael Maierhof alongside music by British composers on the BMIC's New Voices scheme (James Saunders, Mary Bellamy and Laurence Crane), pieces by Christopher Fox (whose Mother is German), Alistair Zaldua (now living in Freiburg, Germany) and James Gardner (now living in Auckland, New Zealand).

The importance of this project is to bring together talented British composers with performers of new music from abroad, and to encourage artistic collaboration (in matters of programming and performance) between European interpreters of new music. For emerging performers of new music, it is often problematic to find an ensemble in which everyone is committed to this repertoire and to experimentation. This collaboration not only addresses this problem, but also allows for more diversity in programming, the wider dissemination of British music, and has the potential for attracting a wider audience.

I am looking at ways of funding the German group's travel and accommodation costs for this project, and would welcome any help or advice you can offer.

Many thanks Stephen Altoft, trumpeter

From: Stefan Eckhof e-mail him

I'm searching for Friedrich ECKHOFF, born 12.3.1835 in Hatzte or Elsdorf. Our church record writes that he went in 1854 to London. Now I haven't any idea to find his ancestors. Also I'm searching to Anna Maria Eckhof, born 3.3.1835 and went 1859 to London. In the US I can see the ship list, and have found there some of my searching names. You can link my homepage. There are over 25000 people from the north area of Germany (most from Hamburg-Bremen)

Stefan is not a member but we are posting this because he has put his database at our disposal.
